Take It From Me

I was born and raised in Gravette, Arkansas.  I've traveled around the world as an entertainer and always return to find that home is where I left my heart.  My father, who was born in Coal Hill, meant the world to me (and to many others).  He was a well known physician in Gravette for 55 years and lost his battle with Alzheimer's Disease in 2013.  It was always a struggle to balance between 'the dream worth chasing after' and being here with him in his difficult final years.  I guess what I'm trying to say is.....

TAKE IT FROM ME

When you're lost you ought to know
there's not a sign at every crossing
just look both ways and count the days
'till you can make it back to Arkansas
Just one step at a time
and a sentimental feeling
will guide you back - oh you'll make it back
with a lesson or two...
Just take it from me.

Across the stages 'round the world
there's a dream worth chasing after
and it's your lucky day when you get paid
to do what you do best
Sometimes you make it on that stage
just in time to catch the laughter
'cause there's no one left
sometimes there's no one left
but it doesn't even matter
boy, take it from me.

It's 'The Natural State' of things
you know you can count on if ever ya fall
'nfact it was a Coal Hill man
who taught me just how to
make some sense of it all

There's a restaurant on the corner
There's a church just down the street
There's a school with happy children
And a place to rest my feet
I guess the lesson's in the journey
Thank God the journey's not all we got
I think you know what I'm saying now
Home is where you'll find your heart
boy, take it from me.

When you're lost you ought to know
There's not a sign at every crossing
So look both ways
And count the days
'till you can make it back to Arkansas
